PLUS: Should China's AI master plan worry us?

Hello AInauts,

Welcome to the latest issue of your favorite newsletter! Short and sweet today. But we cover not just one, but two ingenious image AIs that you absolutely have to try out!

Here's what we have in store for you today:

  • πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China's AI master plan - should we be worried?

  • 🧐 Mysterious new image AIs make brilliant pictures

  • 🌊 How VIBE MARKETING is transforming marketing teams right now

P.S. Before we get started, a quick word on our own behalf.

On May 14, 2025, it's time again for the RISE OF AI conference in Berlin! We were there last year and can say: it's one of the most exciting AI conferences there is.

We have also been able to secure a small contingent of tickets with a 20% discount for AInauts at. Click here for the tickets. We look forward to meeting you in person!

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China's AI master plan - should we be worried?

After Mondays post about the new models from China, we received a few messages from the community.

And now, in the form of DeepSeek, a new version of the incredibly powerful language model is once again having people lose their minds.

DeepSeek V3 0324 is a model with almost 700 billion parameters and already tops the charts of non-reasoning models.

We don't want to go into all the benchmarks and details for now, but rather ask a few questions.

  • Why is China flooding the market with cheap or even free AI models?

  • Why is the otherwise so closed country going down the open-source route?

There seems to be a clever plan behind it, which could be "dangerous" for the West after all. We stumbled across a possible explanation by tech legend Balaji.

China could pursue a "commoditize your complements" strategy.

Don't worry, we also had to read it twice before it made sense 😁.

In essence, it's about squeezing profits out of AI software because China wants to make their money from AI-enabled hardware! A classic example of this approach is Microsoft - they commoditized PC hardware while maintaining high margins on software (Windows, Office, etc.)

The logic behind this is pretty smart.

Basically, they're trying to do to the US AI sector what they've already done to EU/US manufacturing: copy, optimize, scale and then undercut prices of the competitors.

China has already seen DeepSeek's release briefly generate billions in stock price losses. Their core competence lies in exporting physical products and scaling up massively until foreign producers can no longer keep up ... just look at what's happening with German and Japanese cars right now.

It could be difficult for closed AI model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic etc. to recoup the high costs of training state-of-the-art models if great open-source models are available with basically the same capabilities.

Surprising? Yes, that the land of the Great Firewall, of all places, is suddenly becoming the land of open-source AI. But it is consistent with China's focus on doing everything it can to win this race - even if that means adopting Western values such as open-source.

And it seems that the strategy is working - according to AI veteran Kai-Fu Lee, the US lead over China in certain areas is only three months... and in other areas such as robotics, military and drones, electric vehicles, etc. China has long been ahead.

Somehow an interesting thesis - we are curious to see how this turns out. What do you think?

🧐 Mysterious new image AIs take brilliant pictures

This week, two new AI image models suddenly appeared in our feeds.

We didn't know one of them yet, and it immediately shot to number 1 in various leaderboards!

Of course, we immediately dropped everything and tried it out. (And we'll show you how you can try it out too).

We're talking about Reve Image (Halfmoon). And if you believe the developers, it is the best image model in the world. πŸ˜‰

The creators behind it are no no-names either and were previously involved in Stability AI, among other things. So much to get you interested - now let's take a look at what it can do.

Result of our first tests: artistic flair & text genius

Whether we create images or graphics, the results all have style. They somehow look cool and artistic.

You can also see this when you scroll through the Explore feed on their website.

The reason for this seems to be a very good automatic prompt enhancement, which turns the simplest prompt into a detailed prompt with aesthetic appeal.

We see this as a major advantage in our tests: you don't have to be a prompt genius to get good images. Simply describe what you want and off you go!

We were also absolutely blown away by the ability to work with long text on images. No matter how long the text, whether in German or English, Reve seems to get it right.

Our take: Better pictures for everyone!

Reve is impressive and fun. It will definitely be one of our go-to models when we need graphics with lots of (correct) text. You can try it out for free here.

P.S. We have promised TWO new models.

#2 is none other than GPT 4o! Yes, OpenAI has finally unleashed the multimodality of their default model and lets us generate powerful images with it. These are great too!

We took the image above, had it described first ("Describe this image in detail"), and then had a new image created ("Create an image based on this prompt") - it turned out almost perfect! Pretty cool. More design examples here.

🌊 How VIBE MARKETING is currently transforming marketing teams

After much talk in recent weeks about vibe coding with tools such as Cursor and Co, the next buzzword is now on the horizon: Vibe Marketing!

The vibe trend is therefore spreading to marketing, and it is particularly exciting for us because we have been living it for a long time and have seen enormous success with it.

What is vibe marketing?

The understanding of the term is still evolving online, and there are various interpretations. We have seen an initial one from Alex Lieberman:

In our opinion, however, this describes more of a solo marketer approach.

For us, Vibe Marketing is much more - above all, of course, AI-supported marketing.

Vibe Marketing is the game changer where a single smart marketer with AI agents and workflows can launch in DAYS instead of WEEKS - achieving results that would take traditional teams of 10+ specialists months to achieve.

The old world: Copywriters, designers, analytics experts and media buyers working in their silos, bogged down in meetings and Slack threads, taking weeks and a large budget to launch anything.

The new world: A smart marketer with the right AI stack tests hundreds of marketing approaches in real time - with AI agents running the whole show.

Why is this happening right now?

Three factors have hit at the same time:

  1. AI has become good enough for marketing tasks

  2. The cost of developing custom tools is minimal

  3. Vibe coding tools have made the tech stack and automation accessible to non-programmers

Our Take: The leverage an individual marketer now has with the right stack is absolutely mind boggling!

There is an arbitrage window NOW to be 10x more efficient than the competition. More engagement, better ads, more automation - if you play your cards right.

How does a vibe marketer work?

A vibe marketer has the brand identity (CI/CD, writing style, ...) and all the information about their company's products in their own assistant. This enables them to produce well-written content for all relevant platforms.

A n8n, Make or Zapier automation system scans the competition, the market, the news, etc. every day, scrapes the most important topics, sends them to an assistant and uses this fodder to develop content and ideas.

The campaign data is exported via Google Sheet and Supermetrics and goes directly to the trained assistant, which analyzes it and makes suggestions for improvement.

Once a week, an automation runs that scrapes all competitor ads on social media, transcribes videos, creates new content and video scripts for the company's own products and generates a report.

Creatives are created automatically using image AIs and video AIs. After a human-in-the-loop step, everything is published directly to the desired channels.

Using the Same.dev tool, for example, the Vibe Marketer can quickly create a landing page that he likes, customize it with Claude in terms of text and style and publish it immediately via Netlify.

Thanks to these many small workflows and (interchangeable) tools, the Vibe Marketer not only has existing campaigns perfectly under control, but also produces new material on the fly, covering what entire teams used to do!

How can you benefit from vibe marketing?

That's the genius of it! To become a Vibe Marketer yourself, you only need a few tools:

  • Workflows: n8n, Make, Zapier

  • Text-AIs: Claude, GPT, ...

  • Image AIs: FLUX, Recraft, ...

  • Video-AIs: KlingAI, LumaLabs, ...

  • Management & Interface: Airtable, Google Sheets, …

Then it's just a matter of building and constantly improving workflows!

We made it! But no need to be sad. The AInauts will be back soon, with new stuff for you.
