PLUS: Sora scandal & news

AI-HOI and good morning, AInauts!
Ready for the week? We're expecting some exciting breaking news, if the rumors are to be believed. But first, the most important AI updates, tools & hacks of the last few days. It's really great what Microsoft is now offering us for free - in stark contrast to OpenAI's secrecy ...
Alright, that's what we've got for you today:
๐ Microsoft Copilot: How to use the chatbot in GPT turbo mode for free - plus more insights
๐ฅ Sora scandal: OpenAI in hot water after explosive interview with CTO Mira Murati ...

Let's go!
๐ Microsoft Copilot: How to use the chatbot for free in GPT turbo mode, plus more insights
Congratulations, you now get the powerful GPT-4 Turbo for free from Copilot!
Yes, you read that right - the most advanced AI from OpenAI is now available for free! But what does that mean for you?

๐ง GPT-4 Turbo: Your new best friend
Microsoft has decided to give all Copilot users free access to GPT-4 Turbo. Until now, this model was only available to subscribers of the paid Copilot Pro ($20/month).
As usual, you also have access to the image generator based on DALL-E 3, and the co-pilot can also access content on the web.
This is a really cool move by Microsoft that redefines the possibilities of free AI interaction!

GPT-4 Turbo is the most advanced model, for which we pay around $20/month at ChatGPT. And if you use ChatGPT without a subscription, "only" the 3.5 model is available.
๐๏ธ How can you use the copilot with GPT-4 Turbo?
Copilot was formerly known as Bing Chat. Now your helper is not only more powerful, but also more accessible.
You can access it directly via https://copilot.microsoft.com.
Or even easier: use the Edge AI browser, and you will find the button for quick access at the top right (see screenshot).
You can download the app here for Android and here for iPhone and iPad. And: you can even test the Pro version for free for 1 month! (Tip: How to set Copilot as the default assistant on your Android).
There is also direct integration with Windows. This benefits devices from Surface tablets to PCs and laptops.

Important note: The GPT-4 Turbo model is currently only available in the "More Creative" or "More Precise" modes - and not in the standard "More Balanced" mode!

๐ฎ Copilot Pro: even more power for the Pros
Of course, there is also a Pro version of Copilot. What are the highlights?
Priority at peak times
Switch between GPT-4 Turbo and GPT-4
100 daily boosts for image generation in the Designer
You can use Copilot directly in the Microsoft 365 web apps
And: create your own custom GPTs with the GPT Builder!

What's really cool with the Pro subscription: Copilot becomes part of your Copilot Pro subscription in the free Microsoft 365 web apps, without the need for an additional Microsoft 365 subscription!
In other words, you can use Word, Outlook and co. as web apps as part of your Pro subscription, and soon also on mobile. A Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription is still required for desktop apps on PC and Mac - but who needs that when you have web access?

The following languages are currently supported in prompts and responses (the Microsoft 365 web apps are also available in these languages).
English
German
French
Italian
Japanese
Portuguese
Spanish
Chinese
Copilot (Pro) is already available in 222 countries.

๐ค The Copilot GPT Builder for even more flexibility
ChatGPT has had the GPT function for a while now, and we're big fans of it.
Now you can also use the Copilot Pro to create your personal chatbots with a pair of clicks - and even share them with others who don't have a Copilot subscription (which is not yet possible with ChatGPT)!
This is really practical and a clever move by Microsoft.

Microsoft has also already added four GPTs that anyone can use free of charge:
Designer frontend: New interface for Copilot's image creation, formerly Bing Image Creator. Make more out of your images.
Holiday planner: Discover new places, plan your itinerary and book your trip quickly and easily.
Cooking assistant: Find recipes, create meal plans and get cooking tips.
Fitness trainer: Design training plans and learn more about nutrition, health and well-being.
If you want to create your own GPTs, you need a Pro subscription.
๐ฎ Our take: GPT-4.5 Turbo coming soon?
Why is Microsoft suddenly so generous? Our guess is GPT-4.5 Turbo!
Rumor has it that OpenAI is already working on a beefed-up version of the language model, and the introduction of GPT-4 Turbo for all users could be a forerunner for the leaked release of GPT-4.5 Turbo.
In other words, as soon as an even more advanced version is released, the previous model moves to the free tier. This gives free users access to powerful tools, while paying customers get an exclusive insight into the cutting edge of AI development.
And if Microsoft is releasing new features so freely, then it shouldn't be long before OpenAI follows suit. So the next few weeks will be exciting.
P.S.: And for all those who like to optimize their prompts even better, there is the Tab "Notebook" in Copilot. The proof of the pudding is in the eating!
Notebook is now shipped in Copilot.microsoft.com, on both PC and mobile browser. Itโs a new interface for crafting, improving, and revising your prompts without chat dialogue. Ideal when you need to iterate on a prompt to get the best result. It supports up to 18K characters.

P.P.S.: ๐คซ Pssst... Apparently new features are also already in the pipeline, as rumors are swirling that Samsung and Copilot are up to something. We should know more later this week, becauseon March 21. March is the next Developer Conference and New Era of Work event from Microsoft.

๐ฅ Sora scandal: OpenAI in hot water after explosive interview with CTO Mira Murati ...
In the midst of the ongoing fight with Elon Musk (we reported), OpenAI is once again embroiled in controversy.
This time it's about the video model introduced a month ago, which has amazed the internet. With its ability to generate photorealistic videos from simple text descriptions, Sora promises a revolution in the world of digital media.
However, two important questions in particular have so far remained unanswered:
When can I use it?
What data was used for the training?
There was an answer to the first question in the interview recently published by the Wall Street Journal (Sora should be made public this year, preferably after the US presidential election ...) - but on the second question there is now even more ambiguity than before...
๐จWhere does the data come from? OpenAI is printing around ...
Mira Murati, the head of technology at OpenAI, really got into a spin when she was asked about the data used to train Sora.
She answered in a way that was almost as mechanical and automatic as if she had been in PR training with Mark Zuckerberg.

It was "publicly accessible and licensed data". And when asked whether YouTube, Facebook or Instagram videos were used for the training, Murati claimed she was "not sure".
This is a statement that is not tenable in view of her position as Chief Technology Officer. She obviously could not or did not want to say exactly what data Sora was fed ...
And the internet is shooting its mouth off about it - first and foremost once again Elon Musk ("They stole everything!"), while Italy has an investigation into Sora underway.
In response to further questions about the use of Shutterstock material, Murati flatly refused to discuss Sora's training - only to confirm after the interview that Shutterstock data was used.
Me: What data was used to train Sora? YouTube videos?
OpenAI CTO: I'm actually not sure about that...(I really do encourage you to watch the full @WSJ interview where Murati did answer a lot of the biggest questions about Sora. Full interview, ironically, on YouTube:โฆ twitter.com/i/web/status/1โฆ

๐ฑ Is something being covered up here? The inconsistencies are piling up ...
Sora is a technological marvel, no question about it. But the interview sheds light on the ongoing debate about the transparency and accountability of AI companies.
The controversy surrounding Sora is part of a larger puzzle. The rapid development of AI technologies raises urgent questions about regulation and supervision.

Critics argue that OpenAI should disclose more clearly exactly which data sources are used and how the privacy of users is protected.
Mira Murati's vague answers have only reinforced these concerns. Instead of providing clarity, the interview gave the impression that OpenAI has something to hide.
Our take: Companies like OpenAI need to take responsibility and be transparent about their methods and data sources. This is the only way society can build trust and ensure that (the creators behind) AI respect our values and rights - and that the future is a reality we can all embrace. ๐โค๏ธ
P.S.: For the record, happy birthday GPT-4!
