AIHOY and happy weekend, AInauts!
Maybe you missed a few of last week's AI updates, tools, and hacks, or you've only just joined us. No worries.
Here are our highlights from the past week:
We've also rounded up the most important Quick News so you can catch up on the latest developments in one place. Ready? Let's go!
A Single Typo Shouldn’t Cost You a Sale

A shopper types “running shos” and gets nothing back. Another types “red waterprof trail runners under $150” and hits the same wall. Both knew what they wanted.
Traditional site search relies on exact keyword matching, leaving shoppers stranded at “0 results found” screens.
Gladly understands what shoppers mean, typos and all. Instead of a dead end, they get products that fit what they asked for and a conversation that keeps them shopping.
Looking for a new studio, an e-bike, or the right collectible Pokémon card, with twelve listing sites open? We built a custom search dashboard for an artist friend: 384 listings from 25 sources, with a map, filters, and details the individual sites don't bring together.
The agent collects listings, removes duplicates and expired ads, and adds details such as the distance to the nearest subway. The article includes a starter prompt for your own search.
Most teams add a second database for analytics. Then manage sync, lag, and drift forever. TimescaleDB extends Postgres instead. Hypertables, 95% compression, aggregates. No pipeline.
Two agents in separate virtual machines with no network connection still exchange data through their shared processor. Then there are outside agents in bank accounts, and a bot that silences its own safety warnings while trying not to send anything. Mission accomplished, it would probably say.
We sort through the latest cases. For your own setup, the more useful question is: Which logins and permissions do your helpers actually have?
What would your AI tell other AIs about you when you're not around? A brilliant prompt from our community got plenty of reactions from you. Give it a try.
The fun has a useful side effect: you see the picture your assistant has formed of you and how you work together. You can then correct wrong information or outdated preferences in its memory settings.
Last week, we hired a Growth Manager and a content bot. No job ad, just a conversation with Grok Bot: What's the goal, who is responsible, which accounts are available, and what must never go live? The first drafts were ready after about an hour.
Our existing Second Brain made a big difference. Without context, a new AI employee will have plenty of questions first. The article gives you our hiring prompt and rules for the probation period.
When research, writing, and analysis keep getting cheaper, what stays valuable about your work? We look at a three-layer model: deciding, executing, and delivering. AI takes over more of the middle. You still have to judge what should be done and whether the result will hold up with the customer.
Our Job Check interviews you about your actual workweek, then sorts tasks by what you can hand off and where your judgment is needed.
Do you need to switch models again? That's the question our new Vibe Check is designed to answer: what does this model actually do for your work? A top spot on a leaderboard doesn't fill out an expense report.
We tested GPT-6.1 Terra and Kimi K3.1 Pro on the same five everyday tasks in German, from expense reports to LinkedIn copy. Terra finished the set for around five cents in under two minutes. Kimi took much longer and got stuck in two runs.
AI News Quickie: This Week's Industry Highlights
AI never sleeps!
OpenAI makes work cheaper, Gemini edits files directly in chat, and new creative tools turn into small custom apps. Here's what's usable now, what's only been announced, and where to check access and settings.
💬 OpenAI: More for Your Subscription, More in Your Inbox
The new GPT-6.1 Terra runs in ChatGPT Work and Codex, is faster, and costs half as much through the API as GPT-6.1 Sol. Our test is in the Vibe Check above.
Pro and Business Premium get more Work and Codex usage, Pro 100 and Pro 500 get double their allowance, plus monthly API credits of up to $500 to activate. Plus gets none.
GPT-6 gives shorter answers and less flattery, especially on Free and Go.
ChatGPT can now read and edit iCloud Mail and Calendar on all plans.
ChatGPT's assistant dot messages you through iMessage or RCS, including unprompted messages. Unfortunately, the beta is initially limited to Pro users in the US.
OpenAI shows how people use ChatGPT at work: 165 activities in nearly 100 countries. In the US, planning and decision-making account for almost 40%.
🔎 Google: Gemini Gets to Work
The new Gemini 4 Carbon is strong on long tasks and cyberdefense, but access is initially limited to selected security professionals and partners.
Gemini edits documents, spreadsheets, slides, and PDFs directly in chat. It's available to everyone on the web; mobile initially supports PDFs only.
Gemini Notebook records up to an hour of audio and turns it into a transcript on Android and iOS. Handy for meetings and talks.
Ads in AI Mode are rolling out to ten more countries. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland aren't included yet. In the US, ads already appear on follow-up questions.
🧰 Claude: Heading to Wall Street and the Office
Anthropic has filed for an IPO and plans to list on Nasdaq as ANT. The price range and date are still unknown, but this could be a big one.
In Claude Enterprise, Chat and Cowork are now one app. Larger tasks keep running in the cloud even when your laptop is closed. Pro and Max have had this since September.
Enterprise admins can use Smart Reports to see how their teams use Claude and what it costs, including shared budgets with alerts.
Claude is getting Artifacts for legal work: comparing contracts, tracking deadlines, and checking supporting documents.
🤖 More Around the Industry
Mistral releases Mistral Large 4 with open weights, ranked by Artificial Analysis as the best open model outside China. For companies looking to run AI themselves, it's the most interesting EU option.
Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to around 60,000 employees. That's just over a quarter of its workforce, while AI spending keeps rising.
Reddit is moving to a logged-in experience, partly to push back against AI crawlers. The reason: AI answers are costing it more than a million search visits per week.
Siri AI adds five more languages, including French and Spanish. German is missing, and the new Siri isn't available in the EU yet.
The Neural Engine in the new MacBook Pro with M6 is claimed to be up to 1.9 times faster than the M5's. Available November 6.
Moonshot's Kimi K3.1 Pro targets coding and long tasks. Our everyday-work test is in the Vibe Check above.
🎨 Creative and Work Tools
Granola now does dictation: press Fn, speak, and neatly formatted text lands in any app. Free and initially Mac-only. Can it match our AInauten Voice tool? That also handles Swiss German and lip-reading.
With Runway App Studio, you describe your own creative tool and Runway builds the interface, using your Brand Kits.
Apple Creator Studio is getting AI assistants for Logic Pro, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers in November, several of them in beta.
ElevenLabs SFX v3 generates sound effects, music, and voices from a single description.
Suno MCP brings the music generator into ChatGPT and Claude: discuss the lyrics and style in chat, and Suno builds the song. The beta requires sign-up, and songs use your Suno credits.
🛡️ Security and Data
A Claude research model found vulnerabilities in browsers and operating systems, including 62 in Chrome that have now been patched. Your action: install updates immediately, enable automatic updates, and restart your browser.
Chrome's Autofill can access Gmail, for order or flight details, for example. Initially US-only. You decide in settings whether Chrome can access your inbox.
New paid Gemini API projects store requests by default if they were created on or after October 26. Check the logging settings if you handle sensitive data.
That's it for today. We'll be back soon with more to put to work.
See you in the next issue for another round of news, hacks, and insights!
